Steps to a fulfilling retirement

Ask yourself how are you contributing to your goals for retirement. If you are retired already, how could your retirement be richer, more purposeful or more vital?

Now I am going to pose three steps to you on how can we reinvent retirement to live our later decades with vitality beyond your present thinking. This is where I am seeking some input from you. When you think about retirement ask yourself:

  • Where do I want to be? 1 year from now? 5 years from now? 10 years from now? What do you see as the issues that emerged when thinking about retirement?
  • What is missing at the moment? What is the one thing you desire but don’t have yet? Is it advice, motivation, a book, a person, an updated device in order to gain knowledge, information, resources etc so that you can make informed decisions? It will be a small step towards building a new picture of retirement bringing about some changes in your life. In life coaching this is what we can explore together.
  • Okay, so now you have thought of some possible changes to work towards that vital, fulfilling retirement. Imagine taking action on this new idea you have come up with. Now how are you going to do that? For instance if you have decided to plant a sensory garden for your family to enjoy you need to find out what are the best plants to have, where can I access them, what is the best time of the year to plant them, how do I nurture them so they thrive? It is possible to make small changes towards a positive change in your life. Lastly visualise your retirement with your hurdles tackled head on and dealt with. What are the small steps you wish to take? What will your life be like in one year, five years from now if you do take action today? Alternately, how fulfilling and vital will your life be if you don’t take action? How strong is your desire to reinvent your retirement because you want a better quality retirement that makes your life more meaningful?
